Hello, my name is Crystal and I am a planner junkie! I have been on the hunt for the perfect planner since I was in high school. My search hasn’t ended yet! So when a company offers to let me try out their new homeschool planning software and review it for all of you I will of course jump at the chance!
Lessontrek is a new digital, cloud-based homeschool planning software.
What Does Lessontrek Do?
- Grading for every assignment
- Tracking total hours completed
- Creating and weighting assignments (tests quizzes etc.)
- Lesson planning per subject and per day of the week
- Ranges can be set such as your school year and your grading periods
How Does It Work?
To use Lessontrek you set up each child in your homeschool by entering information such as their grade, the start and end date of the school year, and you can even define semesters or grading periods. Once that is completed you enter their subjects. Each subject can be color coded and parameters such as number of hours necessary for completion and custom gradeing scales can be set.
After that you are off to races! You can create assignments, label them (such as daily assignments, tests, quizzes, etc.). There is space for lesson plan details and pretty much anything you can think of.
Creating a week’s worth of the assignments is easy! You can even copy and paste to the following week. Assignments can even be very easily drag and dropped between days.
You can print out a report of your weekly assignments as well. More reports are in the works.
One of the handy things about Lessontrek is that they provide built in access to help. CLick on the Help Button and you’ll see icons that provide you with more information once you click on them.
The built in sample student provided me the opportunity to really play with the software and learn the ins and outs before I spent time entering lots of information for my own children.
What I Like About Lessontrek
- It is cloud based. I can access it from any computer at any time.
- It is reasonably priced at $6/month or $60/year
- The color coding of children/subjects and the general layout are very clear and clean.
- The dragging and dropping of subjects works incredibly well.
Improvements That I’d Like to See
- Support for Kindle Fire Tablets and other Android devices. It doesn’t work on these at all. I saw on their Facebook page they plan to creating something for Ipad, but that doesn’t help me.
- I’d like to see and plan for an entire month, right now you can see just a week. I’d like to bump whole days forward and even Friday assignments to Monday. This isn’t possible yet.
- I’d like to see day view with all of my children’s assignments displayed for me for the day.
